LTC Mike Schafer, CDT Ben Boxler, Marylou Wade
Inaugural Presentation
Army ROTC Center, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU)
February 11, 2008
The inaugural scholarship presentation was a beautiful event. Major donors and family members, along with many ROTC Cadets attended the ceremony.
MAJ Scott Jones opened the ceremony on that beautiful sunny morning. LTC Mike Schafer, Professor of Military Science and in charge of the Army ROTC Eagle Battalion spoke which I in turn followed with a short speech.
Cadet Boxler read his essay of a soldier’s bravery, honor and sacrifice in not only the Vietnam war, but in todays war also. Army Strong! Read and be inspired by Ben’s essay here. A $1,000.00 scholarship was then awarded to CDT Boxler. Ben was graduating in May as a commissioned officer reporting to Fort Stewart, Georgia, in the military police.
The Army ROTC at ERAU assists with events at the Daytona International Speedway which is across the street from their building. The Army also sponsors a NASCAR racing car, so in honor of this special day they were able to secure the Army NASCAR #8, whose driver at the time was Mark Martin. The car was the backdrop for the presentation.
In thank-you the Army invited my husband and I to attend the 50th anniversary of the Daytona 500 in which #8 was to race in. What a spectacular event that was. Thank you Army!
